Only nine medical suites remain available in new Westside Private Hospital

Only nine of 22 medical suites remain available in what will be a hospital for the future – Westside Private Hospital – due to open in October.

The Evans Long and Montserrat Hospital joint venture development, at 32 Morrow Street, Taringa, is almost fully leased and it’s not hard to see why, when you examine the building’s facilities.

The ten-storey building will not only be home to Montserrat’s newest short-stay overnight facility but represents a new approach providing patients with a more integrated model of healthcare, where everything is centred around the patient.

In addition to two floors of specialist consulting suites, the hospital floor will include four operating theatres, a large procedure room and three treatment rooms as well as Westside Haematology and Oncology, a new addition to Montserrat Cancer Care Services, located on the third floor.

Essence Medi Apartments & Suites will occupy three floors and offer an affordable, conveniently located, out-of-hospital accommodation option for the surgical and oncology patients before, during and aftercare.

The building also includes a Guardian Child Care Centre, Allied Health facilities, a café and food retailers and concierge services. There are 185 car parking spaces, 90 of which will have 3-hour free parking for Westside Private patients. The location also offers easy access to train and bus services.

Monserrat CEO Ben Korst said with over 23 years in the healthcare industry and nine facilities across Australia, Westside Private Hospital was Montserrat’s most innovative yet.

“Health Funds and their partner hospitals are being driven to reduce hospital stays and overall patient costs. The days of long-stay post-operative patients will be a thing of the past over the next decade which is why the facility has been built to accommodate not just today’s patients, but those of the future, Mr Korst said.

“We see a future for this hospital where complex overnight patients are now relatively short stay patients. Many of which will stay in a low acuity care environment in the Essence Hotel. This sets the scene for innovative models of care and funding arrangements with Health Funds that are seeking to genuinely improve care for their patients, whilst also finding efficient financial models for doing so.”

“Westside Private is a completely integrated hospital where specialists can see patients and their family in modern consulting suites, with direct access to comprehensive Imaging services from Queensland X-ray and on-site QML Pathology Laboratory including an onsite reporting Pathologist.

“World-class theatres will be supported by overnight beds at the hospital and 4-star accommodation suites operated by Essence,” Mr Korst said.

Evans Long Director Matthew Evans said with the building’s exterior complete, construction inside was continuing focusing particularly around the fit-outs which included more than $5million for the hospital, about $800,000 for the Cancer Centre and more than $4million for the Q-Xray facilities.

“The building is already over 90% committed with Montserrat and Essence as the largest stakeholders, but there are still limited opportunities to purchase or lease medical specialist suites, through Transact Property Group.

“The medical suites still available ranged from 70m2 to 1692.”

Mr Evans said the building offered an excellent location, overlooking the city centre, within the Taringa Neighborhood Activity Zone, close in proximity to residential, medical, education and retail facilities.

Located within 5km of Wesley Hospital, Toowong Town Centre, Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, the University of Queensland, a number of public and private schools as well as the Mt Coot-tha nature precinct, the building will also feature seamless integration with Taringa Railway Station.

Mr Korst said Montserrat was also excited that their rural and country patients would now have a city base to call home. Westside Haematology and Oncology will provide Chemotherapy, treatment for blood disorders at the Centre in their new 14 Chair Infusion unit.

“This integrated approach is the gold standard in medical care where specialists and allied health services are aligned through education and multidisciplinary team meetings creating a personalised treatment for every patient,” Mr Korst said.

The hospital’s comprehensive services include specialists in plastic and reconstructive surgery, oncology, haematology, respiratory, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, ENT, dermatology, oral and maxillofacial, general surgery, breast and endocrine, urology and orthopaedic. These services will be sequentially rolled out over the first 24 months.

These will be complemented by services including a full suite of radiology services, pathology with an on-site pathologist, clinical pharmacy services, radiation oncology and cancer centre, as well as allied health services including a dentist, endodontist, pathology, radiology, psychologists, physiotherapists and podiatrists.

The Essence Medi-Apartments & Suites will include 63 apartments including studio and studio accessible, studio deluxe, one and two-bedroom apartments and one-bedroom suites.

The facilities include accessible suites and apartments and everything a patient and their family would need for a stay to accommodate up to four people, with all the amenities and comfort a guest would expect from a luxury four-star accommodation.
