Fusion Sunshine Coast to host huge games day at Buderim Australia Day celebrations

FUSION Sunshine Coast will be hosting a huge games day for children and the young at heart as part of the Buderim Australia Day Celebrations.

The games will include traditional favourites as well as some newer games and be one of the highlights of the celebrations, which will also include an Ecumenical Service, Opening Ceremony, Flag Raising and Welcome to Country, as well as the Lions Breakfast, musical entertainment, food stalls and much more.

Fusion Sunshine Coast team leader Jesse O’Neil said the team at Fusion were looking forward to running games and activities on the Buderim Mountain State School oval that would bring a smile to the faces of local children.

“The games will include lots of old fashioned favourites including egg and spoon races, sack races, tug of war, paper aeroplane competitions and more.

“We will also be having a few newer games including water balloon volleyball, spinning plates and Diablo spinning.”

“Australia Day is such an important day in our annual calendar and it’s important that children are a key focus,” Jesse said.

BWMCA Australia Day Committee Chair Meg Scott said this years celebrations were an alternative to the traditional march, and were a way of ‘weather proofing’ the event which has been rained out the last few years.

“Rain or shine all the activities will go ahead, with any outdoor activities moving indoors in the event of rain,” Mrs Scott said.

“This way it ensures that everyone in the community can have a great day out and celebrate this important day together.”

Activities will kick off with the Lions Breakfast at Middies Shopping Centre from 7am. The Ecumenical Service will be held at Buderim Mountain State School at 8.30am, followed by the Opening Ceremony, Flag Raising and Welcome to Country from 9am.  All the other entertainment and activities will start from 9.45am on the School Oval and in the School and War Memorial Community Halls.
