As many Sunshine Coast families continue to struggle with the cost-of-living crisis, the Buderim Foundation is proud to have provided a $100,500 grant to Gateway Care Food Centre to provide urgently needed food for local families.
The grant from the Buderim Foundation Thompson Charitable Fund is the third provided to Gateway Care Food Centre and brings total funding to a total of $302,000 to the organisation since 2023.
Buderim Foundation chair Rick Woods said the grants have provided much-needed support to families in need, including those experiencing homelessness, living in poverty or with domestic violence.
A special morning tea and cheque presentation will be held at Gateway Care’s Caloundra facility today at 10am.
“Many local families on the Sunshine Coast have been struggling for some time and we are pleased to be able to once again provide support to organisations like Gateway Care who do such vital work,” Mr Woods said.
The Buderim Foundation has been the Trustee for the Thompson Charitable Fund since April 2021. Over the past three years, a rolling grants program has provided over $1 million to support people experiencing homelessness and financial distress on the Sunshine Coast. The Fund was established by philanthropists Roy and Nola Thompson.
Gateway Care Food Centre is a community organisation run predominantly by volunteers which spends approximately $15,000 per week on food items, ensuring families in need have access to essential nourishment and regular food staples.
Gateway Care Limited managing director Tom Lew said with this continued support we are able to help over 1,000 families for six months. This includes targeted relief to those facing severe financial challenges and support for approximately 300 welfare recipient families using services daily.
“This is vital help for families struggling because of the rising cost of living crisis,” Mr Lew said.
The Buderim Foundation is a philanthropic organisation which harnesses the power of giving by generating income from donations and bequests and providing grants for worthwhile community projects. In addition to the Thompson Charitable Fund, the Buderim Foundation runs a separate Community Grants Program supporting projects benefiting the local Buderim area.
