Business community gather to celebrate success and launch 2023 Business Awards

The Sunshine Coast is seen as the ‘entrepreneurial capital’ of Australia, and it is the reputation for hard work and dedication that the Sunshine Coast business community celebrated at the annual Small Business Month Breakfast in May, which was a huge success with a sell-out crowd of over 260 people present, with 50 at the information session that followed.

The event on Thursday 4th May, presented by the Sunshine Coast Business Awards, Sunshine Coast Council and Regional Development Australia (RDA), Sunshine Coast, also saw the 2023 Sunshine Coast Business Awards launched.

“With more than 40,500 small businesses, contributing to more than 50% of all employment for the region, it is no wonder that we are the envy of other regions,” Sunshine Coast Business Awards chair Jennifer Swaine said.

New mega Sunshine Mitre 10 opens in Aura Business Park

One of the largest independently operated and owned hardware suppliers in Queensland, Sunshine Mitre 10 has opened a new mega hardware store at Stockland’s Aura Business Park.

Sunshine Mitre 10 General Manager Neil Hutchins and Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace MP cut the ribbon at new Sunshine Mitre 10 Aura store.

The new Aura store has been built across three commercial blocks of land and includes 6,5000 square metres of land including 3,500 square metres under roof.

Sunshine Mitre 10 General Manager Neil Hutchins said the new Aura store was an important part of the group’s steadily expanding network of stores.

“Aura has some of the largest growth in population on the Coast, an area that will always be important to us with the business having started in Nambour more than 110 years ago,” Mr Hutchins said.

More than 260 people will attend the sold-out celebration of Coast businesses after an incredibly tough business environment over the past two years that has included fire, floods and Covid.

The Breakfast will see Sunshine Coast businesspeople hear from three of the 2021 Awards winners as part of a panel offering insights into what winning the Awards has meant for their business and how businesses can set themselves up for success with their entries. The panel will include John Langmead from Advanced Aquarium Technologies which took out Building and Construction Large, Export and Business of the Year, Deb Caruso from In Publishing which won Creative Industries Large, and Sonia Martin from Sunny Street which won Health and Wellness Large.

New North Lakes Mitre 10 store to cater for increasing trade demand

Sunshine Mitre 10 will next year build a new store in North Lakes to service the strong and increasing demand from the building and trade sector in the area.

Plans for the store at Stapylton St have been approved by Moreton Bay Council and construction is expected to commence early in the new year.

Sunshine Mitre 10 General Manager, Neil Hutchins said the new store would complement other stores in the Mitre 10 network in the South East Queensland region.

Only nine of 22 medical suites remain available in what will be a hospital for the future – Westside Private Hospital – due to open in October.

The Evans Long and Montserrat Hospital joint venture development, at 32 Morrow Street, Taringa, is almost fully leased and it’s not hard to see why, when you examine the building’s facilities.

There are 185 car parking spaces, 90 of which will have 3-hour free parking for Westside Private patients. The location also offers easy access to train and bus services.

Construction on Westside Private Hospital moves to next stage after ‘topping out’

The Evans Long and Montserrat Hospital joint venture development Westside Private Hospital at Taringa has reached the final stages of construction with the building ‘topping out’.

The ten-storey building at 32 Morrow Street, Taringa, will be home to the new Westside Private Hospital, a short-stay overnight facility operated by Montserrat Hospitals.

The hospital floor will house five operating theatres and three treatment rooms. Two additional floors will provide specialist consulting suites as well as Westside Haemaotogy and Oncology, a new addition to Montserrat Cancer Care Services.

The other floors of the building will include a Guardian Child Care Centre and three floors for the Essence Medi Apartments & Suites, which will offer an affordable out of hospital, yet conveniently located, accommodation option for the surgical and oncology patients before, during and after care.

The two top floors of the building will be luxurious sky homes, with a roof top pool and entertainment area, while at the bottom of the building there will be a café and concierge services, a floor containing Allied Health facilities, and four basement levels of car parking with 185 car spaces. Westside Private will allow 3 hours of free parking providing relief for patients and their family.
