BMSS year 5 and 6 students watching the Drop Zone Road Safety video

Buderim school students lead community road safety initiative

With over 1000 students travelling to and from Buderim Mountain State School each school day road safety is important so the BMSS P&C has commissioned the production of a series of road safety videos, where the students became the teachers.

BMSS Principal Neil Jenkins said the school has been at its present location since 1887 and particularly in recent years, the community had grown significantly.

Mr Jenkins said with the assistance of a grant from the Queensland Government’s Community Road Safety Grants Scheme, the P&C wanted to provide information to parents as well as the wider Buderim community about how to ensure the safety of students.

Buderim Community Christmas Carols to be postponed this year

It is with reluctance that a decision has been made to postpone the Buderim Community Carols for 2020.

“While we will miss the community gathering in Buderim Village Park that for many signals the start of the festive season, we are unable to proceed this year,” BWMCA Carols sub-committee chair Andrew Butterworth said.

“The committee has been working hard behind the scenes to investigate options so the event could still go ahead without compromising the community atmosphere but ensuring community safety and compliance with COVID Safe Event Plan guidelines. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible,” Mr Butterworth said.

Breathtaking Swim with Whales encounter part of an amazing start to the season on the Sunshine Coast

A truly breathtaking encounter with a giant humpback whale saw guests some eye to eye with one of these amazing marine mammals, in what has been a part of an amazing start to the season on the Sunshine Coast.

Part of Australia’s 1st Swim with Humpback Whales, Sunreef has already guided thousands of people since starting tours in 2014 to see the whales from within their own environment.

Sunreef Mooloolaba owner Dan Hart said though this encounter was definitely among the top ten.

“This adult whale stayed with guests and our boat for about two hours in the end, and it kept circling around coming back again and again to get a closer look.

2020 Sunshine Coast Whale Watching Season is here!

The Humpback Whales are back and the 2020 Whale Watching Season on the Sunshine Coast has begun, presenting a special opportunity for locals and Queenslanders.

Sunreef Mooloolaba’s Dan Hart said this year’s whale watching season started a little later than usual due to COVID-19 but that with restricted numbers on board it offers a special experience.

“This year we started a couple of weeks later than usual, but we have our COVID SAFE plan in place which includes additional cleaning and hygiene measures as well as a restriction on the number of people on board,” Dan said.

Buderim couple set a splendid example of giving back to the community

While everyone has been dealing with a world that seems to have been turned upside down, something quite special has happened in our community that is sure to gladden the hearts of many.

Long term Buderim residents Norm and Ellen deChastel who last year celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary have quietly made a donation of $100,000 to the Buderim Foundation, adding significantly to its funds held in trust and therefore its capacity to build a stronger community through its annual grant allocations.

In announcing this outstanding philanthropic gesture, Foundation Chair Prof. Russell Stitz said “For 13 years, the deChastels have been in what we would class the major annual donor category, but this latest contribution to the Buderim Foundation catapults them into the exceptional category. In previous years, they have asked for their donations to remain anonymous, but this year they have been prepared to relax this requirement in the hope that it may inspire others to follow.
