The Commemoration on Monday April 25 begins with the Dawn Service commencing at 5.15am on the eastern escarpment of Buderim Village Park. The Service will be lead by Wing Commander Ken Webb CSM (Retd) and the speaker will be Major Jim Campbell DFC (Retd).
AS the humpback whales are feeding up in the Antarctic ready for their migration to a warmer climate for winter, Sunreef Mooloolaba are preparing for their third Swim with Whales season on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Sunreef Mooloolaba’s Dan Hart said the whales are currently feeding, eating in excess of one tonne of krill and small fish a day, increasing their blubber reserves, which they will live off throughout their migration north, not eating apart from the occasional opportune feed until they return home.
SUNREEF Mooloolaba will be running a very special Earth Hour Submerged Dive on the ex-HMAS Brisbane to celebrate Earth hour on March 19, 2016.
Sunreef will head out for a night dive and turn off our lights for one minute on dusk to bring awareness to the Earth Hour campaign. For those who can’t make the dusk dive, Sunreef will also host a morning dive, also on March 19, which will discuss climate change on the boat ride out the ex-HMAS wreck.
Sunreef divers will take to the HMAS Brisbane wreck and the Mooloolaba canals as part of Clean Up Australia Day this year.
On Saturday March 5th, Sunreef staff will lead a group on a Clean Up Walk around the Mooloolaba canals before a breakfast barbeque at Sunreef, followed up a trip out to the ex-HMAS Brisbane to clean up underwater.
SUNREEF Mooloolaba is busy prepping their team and their vessels for what is anticipated to be the biggest Swim with the Whales season yet. The Humpback Whales are currently feeding in the Antarctic and will start to migrate up the East Coast of Australia, reaching the Sunshine Coast in June, with official Swim with the Whales experience kicking of in July.
The 2016 season will be Sunreef’s third after launching Australia’s 1st Swimming with Humpback Whale encounters in 2014. Sunreef are keen to help more people experience an encounter with these magnificent mammals from a new perspective.
